Anchor House is always looking for new and exciting ways to enhance and develop the service it provides. We are also keen to explore new ways to invest in our future and the future of social care workers…. one of our most exciting new projects on the horizon is a potential partnership with the University of East London (UEL), to become a host for the practical learning element for the next generation of social workers.
This week, Anchor House welcomed the Practice Learning Manager for trainee Social Workers at UEL (partnered with the world-famous Tavistock Centre: leaders in mental health care and education and reknowned for pioneering psychodynamic learning and treatment models).
This was the first stage of the process for hosting the vitally important practical learning for the next generation of social workers.
Head of Personal Development at Anchor House, Maurice Price, has extensive experience in supervising students on placement. It is essential for the university to be confident that the student’s time at Anchor House will provide the learning opportunities that will ensure they are able to demonstrate the necessary skills and ethos to be accepted as a qualified social worker.
The Personal Development Team are really excited at the prospect of working with trainee social workers. “It’s a great way for us to have access to the latest thinking and also for the students to have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills assisting our wonderful residents”, says Eve O’Keefe.
The next stage in this process will be for UEL to complete an audit. Then it will be simply a case of matching suitable students with Anchor House.
Keith Fernett, Director of Anchor House says “this is a wonderful development for us at Anchor House, what exciting times are ahead”!
